I LOVE monkey Bread!! Years ago I was at a Tupperware party and the consultant made what she called Monkey Bread in a microwave cooker. The smell as it cooked was intoxicating and mouth-watering. Once I tasted it I was hooked!! Now I am not a big fan of using the microwave for anything more than reheating or popcorn so I set out to make mine in the oven.
I took a bundt cake pan and sprayed it with cooking spray, I prefer the buttered flavor. Simply take out a can of biscuits, any biscuits work so do not let anyone tell you it have to be brand x., place in a ring around the bundt pan with each piece touching the other. I melt 4 tbs of unsalted, real butter and pour over the ring of dough. Now I keep a separate container of a cinnamon/sugar mix for easier access. Spread a generous layer of this mixture over the buttered dough. Simply bake according to the biscuit directions. ( I check mine frequently because as we know different ovens cook differently). You will smell the amazing aroma wafting through your house and the hubby and kids will be asking, “Is it done yet?”
When it’s done baking, cover in glaze. you can serve hot or let sit. I leave mine in the bundt pan and simply tear off pieces.
SIMPLE GLAZE
4 tbs melted butter
2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 tbs hot water
Whisk vigorously.
Some other twists on this goodie:
Add raisins, nuts, dried fruit, fresh fruit etc for a great holiday or party treat!
use different flavor glazes or icing such as lemon, blueberry etc
Add chocolate chips and a chocolate glaze!!!
After adding the butter and cinnamon sugar, add a layer of caramel and bananas for a Bananas foster style dessert.
The possibilities are endless!!!
