Do you know where your food is made? Here’s how to know!!

It is a complete and utter shocker to me that companies no longer have to list where their food products are made. Let’s face it, some countries have less than clean and safe food practices and we have the right to know where things we ingest are being made. Even though they no longer are required to put this information on packaging, there is still a way to know where your food is coming from…The bar code. These simple rows of numbers tell us a lot about products. What factory they are made in, when they were made and even WHERE they are made.

This one would be a USA product

The first 2 or 3 numbers of a bar code tell us what country the product is made in. I take this list shopping with me so I can be fully aware of what I am giving my family. You may want to take this with you too!

Bar Code Awareness

If your codes begin with:

690-692  They are made in China

00-09     They are made in the USA or Canada

30-37  They are made in France

40-44   They are made in Germany

471    They are made in Taiwan

49    They are made in Japan

50     They are made in the UK

Do you suffer from chronic pain? You may need Active Edge Technology

If you are a chronic pain sufferer like I am then you know just how debilitating it can be and how much it effects your life. I suffer from arthritis, fibromyalgia, sciatica and chronic hip pain that has resulted in rods being placed in my hip. I know all about chronic pain and it’s effects on life. If you’re like me then you have searched high and low for relief and short of pain medication which makes you sleepy and can be addictive, I have not found much relief.

I support the Wounded Warrior Project and one day while shopping on their site I found products with Active Edge Technology. This is a high-tech pain relief that is built into the products like bracelets, clothing and more that is supposed to help with chronic pain, inflammation and more. I decided to give it a try and bought a cute pink and black bracelet with the Harley logo on it. I had tried everything else so why not this. It is a bit expensive but so have the many failed products I have already tried.

To be perfectly honest when I wore it the first day I felt no different. The second day I noticed a little difference in the pain level but not a lot. A few days into it and I still only got a small amount of relief but it was better than nothing. I know that not all products work for everyone but I am sure there are many, many people out there that this would work wonders for. I think I have soooo many different problems that it is just too much for just one product to help but I did notice that the pain meds I took were no longer doing what they used to with the pain and adding the bracelet brought it back to where the pain meds used to be when taking care of the pain so this is a huge plus in my eyes. I also notice that the longer you wear the bracelet, the better it works so if you try to just wear it for an hour every other day or so, it’s probably not going to give you relief.

Now they are offering more items with this technology as well and even offer a sleep shirt with technology that is supposed to help you sleep and wake up more rested. I don’t have much of a problem sleeping anymore since I bought a Sleep Number bed, unless the pain is exceptionally bad that day.  If you are trying to find some relief from the constant pain, head over and check out the products for yourself. They even offer dog collars to help relief your best friend’s pain too!

Wraps By Renzel Giveaway

You may have noticed my past posts about Wraps by Renzel and how much I love these headwraps. I am someone who hates to fuss with my hair yet I still want it to look cute so my choices have been limited in the past. I cut my hair short for the Summer, which I love, and these headbands look even cuter in my short hair. I can simply place the wrap of my choice in my hair, play with it just a bit and I am done and out the door. No curling irons, blow dryers or straighteners, just primp and go!! The best part of the wraps is they stay put, they do not slide all over your head and that’s a major plus for me! I cannot stand to have to keep adjusting my headbands throughout the day and I never have that problem with these beauties! They also fit all sizes of heads. I have a rather large head and they fit great, my daughter has a smaller head and they fit her just right too!

9 One Bite Appetizers

I love to have people over and having enough appetizers that everyone will like is sometimes a very hard thing to do. You know you need variety but you don’t want something that takes as long to cook as the entrée or something you need to be a chef to prepare. Variety is the spice of life after all and the one bite recipes are perfect for any get together. You are sure to please all of your guests, even that one friend that is critical of everything and says she likes nothing you have prepared. Now you have an arsenal at your disposal to blow her away.

These recipes come from coupons.com and their Good Stuff blog. It is a great place for recipes and cooking tips and so much more.

Here’s a sample:

Buffalo chicken cheese balls

Ingredients Serves 15

1 store-bought rotisserie chicken
14 cup hot sauce
1 tsp ground black pepper
1 34 cup sharp cheddar cheese
14 cup scallion, freshly sliced
1 cup all-purpose flour
3 egg, lightly beaten
2 cup panko bread crumbs
1 vegetable oil, for frying
1 12 cup mayonnaise
12 cup packed blue cheese, broken up
12 tsp hot sauce
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp salt
12 lemon, juiced
1 tsp garlic, chopped

Directions

  • Prep 20 min
  • Cook 10 min
  • Ready 30 min
  1. Heat oil to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Pick meat from the chicken and discard the skin. Place the chicken in a large bowl and add 1/4 cup hot sauce, pepper, cheese, and scallions and toss to combine. Roll the chicken into 2 ounce balls, about the size of a golf ball.
  3. Place flour, eggs, and bread crumbs in 3 separate bowls. Roll each ball in the flour, then the egg, and then the bread crumbs. Set aside.
  4. When the oil is hot, fry the chicken balls in batches. Cook for about 2 minutes per batch. Remove to a paper towel lined plate to drain the excess oil.
  5. To make blue cheese dip: combine mayonnaise, blue cheese, 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, lemon juice, and garlic in a large bowl. Adjust the seasoning if necessary. Serve with chicken.

He likes the praise!!  I am always looking for new crock pot recipes to add to my ever-growing collection.

Homemade Fruit Leather ( roll ups)

Do your kids love fruit roll ups as much as my grandson does? He can eat a whole box if you let him and these snacks are not cheap, especially if you buy the organic kind, which I prefer to do. Have you ever considered making them yourself? I know I hadn’t really thought about, that is until I came across this post from The Good Stuff from coupons.com.

This recipe sounds really easy to do and I think I am going to give it a try! Are you game?

I have a charity bake sale coming up in October and these would be perfect. It’s for Breast cancer awareness so I could tie them up with pink string!

Since I eat as close to sugar-free as I can, I can substitute Splenda for the sugar or honey and make these diabetic and sugar-free eating friendly!

Mango Peach Homemade Fruit Leather Recipe

Yield: 12 servings
Prep time: 10 minutes
Total time: 8 hours, 10 minutes

  • 2 cups (about 4) fresh or frozen diced mango
  • 3 Tablespoons honey or sugar
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice

Directions

  1. Heat oven to the lowest possible temperature (140-170°F). Line a large baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Place peaches and mangoes, honey or sugar, and lemon juice in a blender or food processor; cover and blend until smooth. Pour puree onto prepared baking pan; use a spatula to evenly spread until 1/4- to 1/2-inch thick.
